1 Summary and Objectives Session descriptions in notes section: Session 1 Objectives: Discuss with audience the value of MSFT technology in Education from a broad perspective – worldwide initiatives, projects, and PiL - and then down to the school level by looking at the specific technology being used and introduced at the SOF. Flow – SOF Video – if it hasn’t been played yet. Key phrase is “It’s not just about the technology”. This is the SOF video with Anthony, Mary, and previous Chief Learner discussing the schools mission and vision. You can discuss what the mission and vision means from a MSFT perspective and our commitment to improving education through projects like this. Slide 2-9 picture tour (Optional) to discuss the architecture GOLD LEED certification, benefits of MSFT involvement in the planning process. Slide 4 Integrated innovation, the slide builds with top bar first the second bar. This illustrates a simplified version of how learning happens. The challenge being that educators have to find ways to make learning engaging while still balancing between antiquated curriculums and outdated tools. Because we’re taking the time to understand the education landscape, we’re better able to recommend, position and create software that maps directly to the learning continuum. Phrase that pays is “solutions at the right time and right place – not just giving you stuff” Slide 5 What Continuous,Relevant and Adaptive means at SOF (see notes on each slide) bottom line is that those 3 words are in everything that we do at SOF. The Educators and Learners chant that every chance they get when they run into a stumbling block of some sort. Whether its innovation in the classroom or innovation in building design keeping those three words in mind help make every day an opportunity to improve learning Slide 6 This is a list of specific school based technology and MSFT technology –key point here is that there isn’t a lot of technology that needs to be managed, which means we can run the desktop environment without a dozen IT folks trying to support old out of date software. Slide 8 Demo slide – all icons clickable and linked to web address es– see slide for more detail

16 innovation and business development team Making the Connection ISTE National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) Creativity and Innovation: Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Technology Operations and Concepts Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. School of the Future Relevance Project Based Learning Educators implement thematic based interdisciplinary projects. Projects are developed with all the disciplines in mind, but not taught in individual silos. Example: The Math and Science educators will work together to weave concepts into a single project that covers a single marking period. School of the Future Learning Portal Organizing class projects or creating school wide surveys for their peers, the Portal allows learners to think innovatively about how to communicate and make decision on everything from what will be sold in the school store to developing a student run Help Desk. Student Run Help Desk Because Educators are given the flexibility to create projects that are relevant to the School, a Student run Help Desk was developed with the intention of supporting the district run help desk in the school. Enabling Technologies OneNote 2007, Word 2007, Excel 2007 Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Microsoft Student 2009, Live Search IT Academy, MSDNAA and industry standardized technology training will be incorporated into this ongoing year long project. http://www.iste.org/Content/NavigationMenu/NETS/ForTeachers/2008Standards/NETS_T_Standards_Final.pdf
