2015-2016 Title IA Proposal to serve all schools with 60% of students on FREE Lunch

ESEA History In 1965, as part of the “War on Poverty”, President Lyndon B. Johnson passed the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Title I was the most funded portion of that legislation. Title I funds are supposed to help impoverished communities provide increased educational opportunities and close the achievement gap that exists with wealthier communities.

ESEA History (continues) Schools with 40% or more students living in poverty are eligible to become “school-wide” Title I schools. Schools write annual plans based on annual needs assessments to describe the use of the Title I funds and how those funds will help to improve student academic outcomes. Poverty in Utah is determined by Free & Reduced lunch applications.

2014-15 Comparison – GSD to Utah 55.3% of Title I eligible schools in Utah are served 29.2% of Title I eligible schools in GSD are served Neighboring school districts all serve schools below 50% free & reduced Granite School District has 26 schools above 50% free not being served Average “Per Pupil Allocation” in Utah is $672.17 GSD Per Pupil Allocation is near $1,500.00 20% of the Utah Title I allocation comes to Granite. That is while we only serve 10% of Utah students.
