6. Don’t waste your time with a pilot test. What do pilots know anyway? 7. Design a really complicated study and have lots of variables you don’t control. That way you won’t be able to establish causality. Causality is way over-rated anyway. 8. Invite your friends and relatives to take part in your study. Tell them what you hope to find before they participate. 9. Disregard any source in the literature that doesn’t support your hypothesis. The people that wrote those articles obviously had no idea what they were talking about. 10. Use the National Enquirer, People and Cosmo as your primary sources for your literature review. Human Systems Integration Program 1. Write really poorly. That way your advisor will spend so much time on fixing your grammar that he or she will not be able to think about your content. 2.Don’t check your data before you run your statistical analysis. If “don’t ask, don’t tell” is good enough for the military, it’s good enough for you. 3. Don’t trouble yourself with the kind of statistical test you should do or the format for your data entry until after the data are collected. 4. Collect data from as few people as possible. After all, people are generally the same and will respond in a similar manner. 5. Don’t just have one person collect data. Use several people to run your experiments. That way you’ll ensure lots of variety in the way the experiment is described to your participants. You wouldn’t want them to be bored. Top 10 Ways to Conduct and Report REALLY BAD Research
