What problems were facing Germany? After the war, a new government came to power in Germany – the Weimar Republic Problems for the Weimar Republic: Bankrupt middle class High unemployment Rising prices Decreased value of money

How did Germany respond to these problems? The Germany people wanted a strong leader … anyone willing to help them out… Even if it meant trading democracy for a dictatorship It was during this time that Adolf Hitler rose to power

Who was Adolf Hitler? Adolf Hitler was: A failed artist A high school dropout A World War I soldier An unlikely candidate to lead Germany After the war, he turned to politics and promised to return Germany to greatness

How did Hitler come to power in Germany? By 1921, Hitler had taken control of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party… or the NAZI Party Hitler promised to: Fix economic problems Disregard the Versailles Treaty Make them proud to be German Build a “new Germany” By the 1930s, he used his power to take complete control of the government
