Kelp/Brown Algae All are multicellular. Found in cool water along temperate coasts. Accessory pigments in chloroplasts cause brown color. Uses: food, thickeners for processed foods, lubricants Giant Kelp

Red Algae Reddish color: phycoerythrin pigment. Warm coastal waters of tropical oceans, up to 260 m. Carageenan (cell wall): food thickeners. Food. Red algae

Green Algae Pigments in chloroplasts similar to those in plants. Most live in fresh water. Both unicellular and multicellular species. Lichen: algae and fungi Volvox Euglena
