Don’ts Checklist Don’t expect favors or preferential treatment. Don’t expect to be the first one called. Don’t expect to work with your group. Don’t expect always to work with the same people. Add two more don’ts.

Do’s Checklist Do maintain personal habits of regular Bible study and prayer. Do expect to make adjustments as needed. Do understand your own limitations and know when to ask for help. Do expect to communicate clearly and directly with others. Do practice expressing your preferences honestly and directly. Add two more do’s.

Two Short Directives Be flexible as you look prayerfully to God to steer you. Be both humble and assertive before those in positions of authority.

Read the story on page 27 Can you easily put yourself in the place of the volunteer? Can you imagine his feelings as he dealt with both the physical demands and the sadness of the work he had to do? How did he respond? How might you have responded?

Staying Safe It’s up to YOU!

General Health and Safety Precautions Drink lots of water. Realize the risk of injury is high. Wash your hands often. Use insect repellent. Adhere to curfews. Don’t leave the staging site after dark. Watch for snakes and rodents.

Avoid downed power lines. Use sunscreen and sun-shielding hats. Do not base your workload or pace on that of another person. Use tools and equipment responsibly. Ask for experienced help if installing a generator. Use battery-powered flashlights and lanterns. Make sure a structure has been examined for hazards.

Stop for a moment, and check your recall. Partner with the person next to you, and test one another briefly to see how many of these general safety precautions you can remember.

Cleaning Homes with Water Damage Wear a facemask. Wear rubber gloves and replace them as tears occur. Wear protective eyewear. Open doors and windows first. Always put on watertight boots. Blow air out of the house.

Remove all porous items that cannot be thoroughly cleaned and dried. If you are using bleach to remove mold: –Never mix bleach and ammonia. –Open windows and doors to provide fresh air. –Wear rubber gloves and protective eyewear. –Wear your facemask.

Know the Symptoms of Mold Exposure Stuffy nose Eye irritation Wheezing Skin irritation

Chainsaw Crews Wear safety glasses. Wear leather gloves. Wear long pants. Wear work boots. Use earplugs. Check the chainsaw before every use. Use the saw only to cut wood. Sharpen the chainsaw – a sharp blade works best.

Do not cut above shoulder heights. Always carry a first aid box. Observe climbing and ladder safety. Carry the chainsaw properly. Avoid using the saw in wet or windy conditions or in poor light. Clear away all obstructions that might trigger a kickback.
