1 A pump made of cardiac muscle that pushes blood to our cells
THE HEART A pump made of cardiac muscle that pushes blood to our cells

2 HEART About the size of your fist
Is a muscle that pumps by contracting and relaxing Pumps nutrient rich blood to body cells Receives Oxygen rich blood from the lungs and pumps it to the body cells Receives Oxygen poor blood from the body and pumps it to the Lungs. Oxygen poor blood contains carbon dioxide (CO2)

3 The Heart has 4 chambers Right Atrium Right Ventricle Left Atrium
Left Ventricle

4 The Right and left are separated by
Septum – muscle that separates the right and left side of the heart

5 Blood flow through the Heart
Right Atrium Oxygen poor blood comes FROM the body and dumps into the Right Atrium

6 Right Ventricle Oxygen poor blood leaves the right atrium and is pumped into the RIGHT VENTRICLE

7 Right Ventricle to the Lungs!

8 In the Lungs the RBC’s get Oxygen

9 Lungs to Left Atrium After the RBC’s pick up oxygen from the lungs they go back to the heart. The oxygen rich blood flows to the Left Atrium It stays in the left atrium until the heart contracts and squeezes it into the ...

10 Left Ventricle! The Left ventricle receives Oxygen rich blood from the Left Atrium. Then the Left Atrium contracts and squeezes the oxygen rich blood out to the body

11 Blood Vessels that bring blood to the Heart and take it away from the Heart
Superior and Inferior Vena Cava – bring oxygen poor blood to the heart Aorta brings blood to the Body Pulmonary Veins – bring blood with oxygen from the lungs to the L. Atrium Pulmonary Arteries – bring blood without oxygen to the lungs from the R. Ventricle
