Became an author when she decided to write about the campaign to get rid of a hazardous waste site, led by her class. Age doesn’t matter when taking social action. Kids with Courage her book that tells stories about 18 youngsters who spoke up for what they believed in.

3 Insight into “Saving the Wetlands”
A 12 year old boy tries to save an irreplaceable part of his local environment. With research, petitions, attendance at public hearings, and organizing a group, he fights to stop development on a wetland area.

4 Purpose for Reading Build vocabulary

5 Vocabulary Condominium (n.) – separately owned, grouped living units (a.k.a. “condo”) Petition (n.) – formal document of request, signed by many people Wizened (adj.) – withered brandishing (v.) – Waving in a challenging way (showing off)
