7 TRIGGERS When something happens to you or when someone says or does something to make you angry, it is an “external” trigger.

13 THE ANGRY BOY There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a long nail into the big tree in the yard. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, he hammered less nails. It was easier to control his anger than to hammer those nails.

14 Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father said that he should pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the tree.

15 He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the tree. The tree will live but it will never be the same. When you say and do things to people in anger, they leave scars just like these. You can put a knife in someone and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as physical one. Son, from now on I want you to think carefully before you do anything in anger. Anger is a normal emotion we all have. Aggression only hurts others
