10 Student Growth TVAAS: Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System TVAAS is a data analysis system that analyzes the academic growth of students. TVAAS measures the impact schools and teachers have on their students’ academic progress. It measures student growth, not whether the student is proficient on the state assessment. Each student has an academic expectation based on previous assessments. Teachers are expected to meet that expectation. If they do so, their growth measure is considered zero. This translates to a Level 3 in our teacher evaluation system. If students achieve higher than expected, teachers and schools will be a Level 4 or 5. If students achieve lower than expected, teachers and schools will be a Level 2 or 1.
