EISWG’s Charge Provide advice on improving communication among the sectors (public, private and academic) Provide advice on incorporating scientific and technical capabilities to enhance NOAA products and services Provide a sounding board on NOAA’s Policy on Partnerships in the Provision of Environmental Information Evaluate NOAA’s effectiveness in responding to advice received from EISWG, and the environmental information enterprise as a whole; Evaluate after two years, whether the working group is an effective mechanism for working with external partners or whether other mechanisms should be considered NOAA SAB -- 20 July 2010 http://www.sab.noaa.gov/Working_Groups/standing/index.html 27 January 2011 AMS, Seattle

No.Work Plan Item PurposeParticipants /Lead Status 6 EISWG Subgroup on Environmental Information vs. Environmental Impact Information 1) Assess NOAA’s role in respect to weather impacts vs. weather information; 2) determine how the enterprise may be affected by this transition; and 3) examine roles of public and private sectors. Warren Qualley, Barry Myers, and Peter Neilley 11/3/10—Presentation at EIWSG Mtg. and distributed draft statement. Recommend changes to the plan where there is a definitive boundary. No additional action at this time. Ongoing. 7 EISWG Subgroup on Clarifying Roles in Sectors with Rapidly-Changing Needs 1) Define high-impact, decision support, and decision assistance; 2) clarify roles; and look at specific sectors to better understand where NOAA might meet evolving needs (transportation, weather, wildfire management); 3) 4D Weather Cube Qualley, Myers11/3/10—Discussion at EISWG Mtg. No.Work Plan Item PurposeParticipants /Lead Status 8 Open Weather Service Concept 1) Establish policy and procedures that allow Enterprise members access to NWS (and in general NOAA) hi-res environmental data that traditionally are only available inside of the NWS; (2) Establish policy and procedures that allow Enterprise members earlier access to new and evolving datasets during the development and testing periods of that data. Peter Neilley & Phil Ardanuy Develop white paper 2/11 EISWG review 3/11 Work with DAARWG & CWG Draft recommendation 3/11 Adopt recommendation in March 2011 for SAB.
