Survey data first collected in 2010 – now in our 5 th year Partnership between SLIC and the JISC Regional Support Centre (RSC) Scotland AIMS: ◦ To track and gauge trends in learning resource service provision in Scotland’s colleges. ◦ To support the quality improvement process. ◦ To provide a benchmark against which individual colleges can map their own position.

The survey focuses on 3 key areas of activity: 1. Resources & Services 2. Technology in the Library Service 3. Staffing and Training

Slight increase in the number of service points – up to 3 from 2 (in one case 5) Majority don’t share space with other services – in 2013 the majority did Average number of study spaces was 199 – an increase of 81since 2013 More than a few spending £3-10K on periodicals and newspapers – in 2013 the majority spent less than £1K

Majority offer induction sessions but the number delivered dropped to 74 from 81 Dramatic increase in number – up from 21 to 85 - & range of workshops offered: 20132014 E-resources (access & searching Searching & evaluating information Referencing & citationStudy skills CopyrightTime management Research skillsPreparing for interviews Using the VLETurnitin Exam preparation

Slight drop in the number of LMS in use – 10 down to 8 Slight increase in libraries with dedicated websites Almost all offer WiFi Few provide mobile devices or apps Majority provide laptops for learners to use More than a few provide iPads, tablets and eBook readers

Staffing: Increase of staffing from 5.2 (FTE) to 9.75 Most services have professional staff ◦ Although 2 did not 22 qualified people in non-professional posts ◦ An increase of 1 person from last year
