What is a Migrant child ? The child of a migratory agricultural worker or fisherman who has moved from one school district to another in the preceding 36 months in search of seasonal or temporary employment.

How is Migrant Education Funded? U.S.D.E. allocates funds annually to states based on the number of migrant children residing in each state. M.D.E. reallocates funds annually to districts based on the number of migrant students residing in the district.

Why Give Special Help to Migrant Children? The Law Requires It!!!! Improving America’s Schools Act No Child Left Behind Act Migrant children are protected under the law because of the disadvantages and educational disruptions they encounter. Migrant children are among the most disadvantaged in the nation due to poverty, poor nutrition and health care, and educational disruptions.
