6 Attendance Achievement Opportunity Exposure to the English Language
One of the most important things your child can do to achieve academic success is going to school every day. Achievement Opportunity Exposure to the English Language Being part of the school community The importance of education Achievement: students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass assessments Opportunity: Being in school every day gives students a chance to learn more about college and scholarship opportunities, and to take important exams they need to build a successful academic record. Exposure to the English Language: Regular school attendance can also help students who are learning English by giving them a chance to master the skills and information they need in all subjects. Being part of the school community: Just by being present at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen by participating in the school community, learning valuable social skills, and developing a broader world view. The importance of education: Your commitment to school attendance will also send a message to your child that education is a priority for your family, going to school every day is critical part of educational success, and that it’s important to take responsibilities seriously.

8 Credit Guidelines for Students

9 What classes are required for 9th graders?
English: A focus on Common Core Standards—Reading Literature, Reading Non-Fiction Texts, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Math: A focus on Common Core Standards—Reasoning, Explaining, Modeling, Seeing Structure, using Tools and Generalizing. Science: A focus on the Next Generation Science Standards—Laying Foundational Concepts and Introduction to Physical Science. Health: An MCS required course—Alcohol, Tobacco, Drugs, Family, Nutrition, First Aid, Disease, and Mental and Emotional Health.  World Geography & Religions: Examination of the 5 themes of geography and the six major world religions. (AP Geography full year course) Physical Education: Take the Physical fitness state test, be educated about lifetime benefits of exercise and experience the social benefits of cooperative learning. Electives: All students need a total of 55 units of electives to earn a diploma. In 9th grade, students will work on writing strong claims with evidence to support using both fiction/non-fiction.

11 COURSE PLACEMENT OPTIONS
Pre-AP/AP Courses Presentation at 7 PM tonight in the cafeteria College Prep Intervention/Support Classes ALD (Academic Language Development) Special Education/RS/Special Day We are actively collaborating with feeder school special education teachers to help with the transition to high school.

12 PLACEMENT DETERMINATION FOR REQUIRED COURSES
Teacher Recommendations Class performance in 8th grade Lexile Scores A Lexile test to determine English placement in may be given in August.

14 Program Offerings (Career Pathways) Unique to Enochs High School
Forensic/Biotechnology Forensic/Biotech Science is designed to give students an introduction to the scientific concepts and laboratory research techniques currently used in the field of biotechnology. Cinema and Graphic Arts Graphic Design will give the student an opportunity to acquire the technical knowledge and skills needed for successful entry level employment in the printing trade or toward college level Graphic Communication and Design. Pre-Vet Science Pre-Vet Science courses will give students the opportunity to explore the world of veterinary science. Employment Opportunities These courses offer a hands-on approach which allows you to learn skills that are applicable to all facets of your life. Employment Opportunities Pathway prepares students for a successful future!
