WebSite Host Web Host Features –Disk Space – how many pictures do you have? –Email accounts – do you need one or more? –Special programs – sell, forms, calendars, etc. –Editing tools for easy web page creation.

WebSite Domain Name Optional – why would you want to? –Easier to remember name – i.e. altrusadallas.org vs altrusadallas.tripod.com Why wouldn’t you want to? –$$$$ - usually $35 per year

WebSite Domain Name Register your domain name Search internet for “domain name registration” Examples: –Register.com –Networksolutions.com Pay up front for one year or several years

WebSite Content Decide on and design content (see next section) Create web page files Transfer web page files to your web site host computer

Content Information? Advertising? Conduct Business? Look at other Altrusa websites – go to altrusa.com and click on “Club Links” More on content in next section

Create Web Pages Web Pages follow format that browsers can read. (Internet Explorer is a browser) Files typically end in.html – but if they’re not formatted correctly, browsers won’t display them.

Create Web Pages Microsoft Word – Save AS Web Page –Will do all the formatting FrontPage Wordpad/Notepad – if you know how to format –Not for the novice Your Web Hoster’s tools

Transfer Web Page Files The files that make up your web site have to be on the computer that is your web site host –FTP –Email to someone at the Web Host –Create directly on the Web Host
