Workout Structure 15 minutes of dryland (wear sneakers!!) – Simple exercises focusing on swim specific movements 30 - 45 minutes swim training – Technique focus – Race specific – Proper diving

Meet Overview Division 1 is highly competitive Teams are large Meets are long We will run our team and meets the fun Hembstead way Strokes will be judged more strictly than D II Relays and individual events will be entered to maximize potential points and stroke proficiency All-Star Meet is officiated by seasoned year-round officials who call a tight meet

“Coach Talk” What events my child(ren) swim? – Events will be based on stroke proficiency and scoring potential Can my child “swim up?” – Swimmers may only swim up an age group if the coach elects to swim them up for the whole season, including the All-Star meet. – Swimmers may only swim up in relays if there are not enough swimmers in the next age group to form a relay Can shrimps swim a meet if they cannot complete a lap unassisted? – Shrimps must be able to swim a lap unassisted by the first league meet to swim in the meet (Division I rule) – Those who are not able may continue to swim in practices and will be entered in a meet when they can swim a lap on their own – There will be no helpers in the water during league meets – Goal – every shrimp in a meet by season end

“Coach Talk” Who swims on relays? – The fastest 4 available swimmers are on the A relay – The next fastest 4 available swimmers are on the B relay No kickboards for backstroke finishes – We will not be utilizing kick boards for backstroke finishes for any age group – It causes DQs – It is impossible to time while holding a kickboard in the water – It does not allow for proper backstroke finishes Who makes the All-Star Team? – The two fastest available swimmers for an event will be on the All-Star team – Alternates will also be selected and will be expected to attend, if available Attitude and effort trump speed and skill
