Abbreviate spelled out countries, states, provinces, etc. as instructed in Appendix B Examples: Carterville, IL – transcribe as is Paris – Add state in brackets if needed—Paris, [Ill.] Carterville, Illinois – enter as Carterville, Ill. (prescribed abbreviation from Appendix B) n RDA – Transcribe exactly as it appears. If adding a place, put in brackets and spell out
