2 What is meant by Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)? Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is NOT a curriculum, intervention, or practice, but IS a decision making framework that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based academic and behavioral practices for improving important academic and behavior outcomes for all students.

6 What is School-wide PBIS (SW-PBIS)? Evidence-based approach for establishing a positive social culture in schools that involves systemic and individualized behavior support strategies for achieving social and learning outcomes while preventing problem behavior with all students. Evidence-based features include: – Prevention – Define and teach positive social expectations – Acknowledge positive behavior – Arrange consistent consequences for problem behavior – On-going collection and use of data for decision-making – Continuum of intensive, individual interventions – Administrative leadership—Team-based implementation

11 Team Process PBIS is active, alive -- not static It’s not something we’ve done – it’s something we’re doing Requires regular team meetings with a team that represents ALL school staff Team keeps PBIS alive through ongoing planning, support, and decision making to address needs as they arise Looking at data & maintaining & developing programs to meet needs

14 SCCOE Training Sequence Training is provided over a three-year period professional development sessions – Site Team (4 x per year) – Coaches Training (8 x first year, 5 x second/third year) – District Leadership Action Planning (1 x per year) design and planning time on-site technical assistance
