Functions (uses): Store and transmit genetic information Contain “instructions” used to create organisms’ enzymes/protein Monomer subunits of nucleic acids are nucleotides – Nucleotides= a. nitrogenous base – Sugar – Phosphate group

Nitrogenous base + sugar + phosphate group = nucleotide Nucleotide + nucleotide + nucleotide +…. = Nucleic Acid

Nucleic Acids Examples –DNA Double strand, contain “directions” for inheritance; sugar deoxyribose –RNA Single strand, help encode info for making proteins; sugar ribose
