2 CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL The objective of this presentation is to provide the Fresno County Board of Supervisors: An overview of CHP Services Enforcement and Educational efforts within Fresno County Current Issues Questions

3 MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security to the people of California. This is accomplished through five departmental goals: Prevent Loss of Life, Injuries, and Property Damage Maximize Service to the Public and Assistance to Allied Agencies Manage Traffic and Emergency Incidents Protect Public and State Assets Improve Departmental Efficiency

9 Special Services (Division Wide) S.A.F.E. (Safety and Farm Labor Vehicle Education) Since inception in January of 2000, their have been 0 Fatalities 46 % reduction of fatal DUI collision involving migrant farm workers 45 % reduction of DUI injury collisions involving migrant farm workers M.A.I.T. (Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team) 94 cases investigated Physical Evidence Diagrams, Officer involved shootings etc. Multiple vehicle fatal injury collisions.

10 Special Services (Division Wide) (2007) Motor Carrier Safety Unit 3553 Terminals Inspected School Bus Safety/Inspections/Certifications 3387 School Buses, 100% certification Commercial Enforcement Unit 37.5 % reduction in Truck at fault fatal collisions (2007 vs. 2006) 19.4% reduction Truck involved fatal collisions (2007 vs. 2006)

11 Special Services (Division Wide) 2007 TMC (Traffic Management Center) Disseminate traffic incident and safety information via 760 television and radio traffic reports per month FSP (Freeway Service Patrol) 3,263 Disabled vehicles assisted 301 Disabled vehicles towed off freeway SSP (Safety Services Program) Workplace violence/safety presentations, Site Vulnerability Assessments
