2. The first mine was built in Zabrze in 1791 and after the II World War the city was named the “capital of the Polish mining”. It was not a coincidence that the first Coal Mining Museum was built in Zabrze in 1981 – firstly as the one and only national museum of this kind in Poland. Since April 2nd 2013 the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze is a single entity, established on the basis of merging the Historic Guido Coal Mine with the former Coal Mining Museum, Queen Louise Mine and Main Key Hereditary Adit excavations.
