We stand for responsible business Media Partner To familiarise users with the computer To enable users to access the Internet, sites of interest and online services To advise users about NI Direct Government Services To help people understand how to send/receive e-mails To give users their own e-mail address To familiarise users with other forms of digital media Note – you and the user may bring their own device ie iPad/tablet to the event for their use Objectives of Spring Online Week

What the computer is all about Introduction to the computer Clicking (and learning some mouse skills) 3. Some may want to get straight on to the Internet See the interesting websites section in your guides Search for information they are interested in Running a taster session 4.How to send/receive an email 5. For further training, use the next steps form 6. Ask them to complete an evaluation form

We stand for responsible business Media Partner Contact your designated Library to introduce yourself as a volunteer Arrange to collect your volunteer pack from your designated Library at least a week before the event and confirm your commitment to attend the event If you haven’t been to your designated Library before, please ask a member of staff for useful information about the: directions, parking, facilities, etc Things to do before the day

We stand for responsible business Media Partner Don’t forget your pack your T-shirt! Leave plenty of time to travel, and arrive in good time before your session Introduce yourself to library staff when you arrive. They will show you to a computer and will give you the names of participants. From this list of participants, check if any individual has special circumstances Tea and coffee will be provided so please take a well-earned break between sessions and at lunchtime Things to do on the day

We stand for responsible business Media Partner Some tips for volunteers Make sure screens are showing something interesting Be ready, welcoming and put participants at ease... smile Wear your T-shirt and have your name badge on You’re offering a taste of the Internet, not detailed training Some will just want to chat and hover - include them Encourage people - listen to their interests Adjust seats, tilt the screen, turn font-size up

We stand for responsible business Media Partner Important Note - The feedback forms have been revised and combined into a single double- sided form. Please assist the participants to complete this feedback form at the end of each session. Then take the completed evaluation and next steps form from the user and return to the library coordinator. We stand for responsible business Media Partner Digital Inclusion is all about access and making online technology available to everyone. The Digital Transformation Service Digital Inclusion Unit within the Department of Finance and Personnel works in partnership with various organisations to help digitally excluded citizens get on line. One such programme, Go ON NI, highlights the benefits of being online. It brings together all the wonderful initiatives, places and tools to help and encourage off-liners to become internet beginners. Digital Inclusion
