3 French Dressings  French Explorers claim the Ohio River Valley, Mississippi River Valley, the Great lakes Region, and Louisiana  The French Fortified their colony by building forts along all major rivers  The French population in North America was 80,000 compared to the English population in the Millions  Jesuits and fur traders worked with Native Americans to survive in the Colonies

4 Arms Race  England and France begin to compete for furs, and alliances in the colonies  France Allied with the Huron and Algonquin tribes while the British Allied with the Iroquois tribes  When the Iroquois Tribe started taking land belonging to the Huron and Algonquin Tribes the French armed them to fight back  England Supplied Weapons to the Iroquois Tribe leading to warfare in the colonies

5 French Bread….of war …OK I KNOW THIS DOESN’T MAKE SENSE  France and England go to war in Europe and the conflict spills over into North America  Native American Allies were drawn into the war with England And France  The French and Indian War would finally Decide who controlled Interior North America

6 French River Dance…. NOW THIS IS GETTING OUT OF HAND  As Britain begins to settle into the Ohio River valley, France and their Allies destroy British trading Posts  France Builds Military Forts along the Ohio river  Virginia, under George Washington, tries to force France to leave  As Britain builds their fort at the base of the Ohio River, France takes it over and renames it fort Duquesne

7 Un-united and it feels so good  George Washington Builds Fort Necessity which was attacked and taken over by France  As the French and Indian War Begins, the Iroquois Nations decline to fight against France  Ben Franklin Proposes the Albany Plan of Union to Unite the Colonies but is defeated  The plan called for colonies to combine to settle and protect the Americas but Legislatures did not want to give up their power

8 French Toast  Britain sends General Edward Braddock to help George Washington defeat French Troops  When France launched a Surprise attack Braddock held his ground and continued to fight  The French Troops were able to Defeat the Larger British Army and continued to dominate the early years of the war

9 French Fried  William Pitt sent Britain's best generals to help win the war  General James Wolfe plans, and carries out, a surprise attack on Quebec  The French Troops awoke to British Troops beginning the Battle of Quebec  Both Leaders were killed in battle and France Surrendered Quebec and Montréal

10 Trick or Treaty….Part Deux  After losing the French and Indian War, France loses the Seven Years War  Under the Treaty of Paris, Britain got all the land EAST of the Mississippi and Florida  Spain received the French Territories to the WEST of the Mississippi as well as Cuba and the Philippines  France lost all power in North America

11 Driven to Thrill  As British forces took over French Forts they began to anger the Native Americans  The Native Americans Surrounded and Destroyed British Forts During Pontiac’s Rebellion  British Forces responded using brutal attacks and diseases to defeat the Native Americans  The British Issued the Proclamation of 1763 forbidding the settlement of lands west of the Appalachian Mountains  This Act would anger the colonists and cause hostility leading to the Revolutionary War
