BY PEARL & JANELLE Interface for the Deaf: Pilot Study

Introduction The interface is specially build for deaf community by NCDHR (National Center for Deaf Health Research) in collaboration with Rochester Institute of Technology and University of Rochester. The interface has signers using different sign languages like American sign Language (ASL), Signed English and Interpreters along with the English text appearing on screen. It has different age groups, gender and race for the signers. The survey tool will have question related to health and medical problems.

Purpose of This Study To see the influence on people with the change in signer’s gender and the type of question (Personal/Non-Personal). Interface being developed for deaf students We were not allowed to use the actual interface This is a pilot Study Experimentation to lead to other studies

Participants 6 participants All males Some form of hearing loss We were not allowed to use deaf students No signer was needed for this study

Setup Tools Used SMI eye tracker Experiment Center BeGaze Stimuli Two screenshots of the AOI side by side One side has a male signer and the other has a female signer Experiment set up in Experiment Center Two experiment files created to have the male and female signers switched
