Tier III Words Dictatorship - a ruler with total power who usually takes it by force. Isolationists- wanting to be apart from everyone else.

Tier III Words Destroyer- small, fast war ship designed to take out submarines Ammunition - projectiles to be fired from a gun Anti-aircraft guns- designed to defend against enemy aircraft.

seized- verb capture using force “The army seized the undefended town”

alliance - noun friendship; agreement “The boys formed an alliance to fight off the school bully”

poised- adjective self-assured; confident “The girl was perfectly poised during her balance beam routine”

foe- noun enemy in war; opponent; adversary “Her ability was acknowledged by friend and foe alike.”

misrouted- verb wrong course or travel “The package I ordered was misrouted so I didn’t get it in time for the holidays.”

emblem- noun image/symbol “Some school dress codes state you can not wear any clothing with emblems. ”

obnoxious- adjective annoying/offensive “Her attitude in class was obnoxious so she was sent to the office.”

paranoid- adjective suspicious/fearful “The old lady was paranoid and thought the hooded teenage was following her.”

jubilant- adjective victorious/rejoicing “The Iowa Hawkeye’s were jubilant when they finally won a game.”

infamy- noun shocking; evil act; criminal “The bully established his own infamy by constantly pushing kids around.”

Synecdoche — n a figure of speech in which a part is substituted for a whole or a whole for a part, as in 50 head of cattle for 50 cows, or the army for a soldier

Synecdoche Examples “All hands on deck” “Man your battle stations” “On the double” These are also examples of Idioms idiom - an expression whose meanings cannot be inferred from the meanings of the words that make it up
