Task 2: Identification of the hotspots location 4-7 June 2013Ecorient 201312 A geostatistic model will allow a spatial representation of pollution in Lebanon Location of the hot spots and their capacity of retaining major pollutants. Methodology: GIS mapping and analysis Definition of the different urban, suburban, rural areas, based on the land map of 2007 Location of potential sites using satellite images provided by the geographic database of the Department of Geography at the USJ Complementary method for physicochemical modeling

Engaging the different stakeholders: Filling-in the gaps at the AQ and epidemiological levels Information sharing and dissemination of results Installation and operation of the equipment Awareness raising at the different levels Financing of O&M activities and decentralization of the environmental monitoring activities.

Project challenges and key questions 4-7 June 2013Ecorient 201322 How to incorporate local activities into a wider national initiative? How to financially sustain the AQ monitoring activities and ensure O&M costs? How to secure the collaboration with local actors on the production and centralization of the data – What are the most suitable sharing modalities and mechanisms to be adopted? How to coordinate data collection on AQ and health to avoid duplication and ensure production of useful, normalized data (in time and in space)?
