9 March 2005Edda Gschwendtner2 ISIS MS (Machine Start) this is the pulse used for ISIS synchronisation – 2.5 s long, 50Hz (rising edge) at Δp=0 Cycle 20ms injection and acceleration cycle of the synchrotron Δp 200 kHz square wave pulse train 4000 pulses per cycle used to sequence synchrotron: - injection @ dp = 1000 - extraction @ dp= 3000 In order to avoid confusion we should use this jargon.

9 March 2005Edda Gschwendtner3 ISIS Timing - Primary Signals Permanent Timing Pulses MS (Machine Start) 2.5μs pulse every 20ms at 0Δp Δp (Δp train) Square wave - 5μs period These primary signals are phase locked to the magnet current/field waveform. injection @ dp = 1000 extraction @ dp= 3000 All other ISIS signals are derived from these. Magnet current 20ms 0 Δp 1000 Δp 2000 Δp 3000 Δp 3999 Δp MSMS Accelerate Inject Extract ~3000 bunches

9 March 2005Edda Gschwendtner4 ISIS ↔ MICE Spill the 1ms (nominal) duration of the measurement during which the RF is turned on, the target is inserted and a measurement is made. Spill-delay the number of Δp pulses counted before the spill is triggered. MICE-veto By monitoring the status of RF we can set a Veto. We then also can count the machine cycles (MS pulses) to select 1 in 50 or 1 in 100 etc. MICE-enable The first MS after Veto is dropped, generates MICE-enable MICE-trigger Start of RF

Empty events (computing pedestal) Triggers (Cosmics, sources) pulsers (auto-induced by DAQ) Pulsing the electronics (e.g. gives gain-curve) Laser, LED, muons… Spill (1ms) Spill Event Trigger or TOF(n) coincidence Time reference to all the equipment
