Citizens of Gonzales would not give up a cannon that was given to them A militia led by JH Moore flew a flag over the cannon that said ‘COME AND TAKE IT’ Mexican government sent 100 Mexican soldiers to Gonzales to take the cannon The militia fired the cannon at the Mexican soldiers and the Texas Revolution began

Many Texans became enthusiastic about fighting against Mexico Mexico felt the actions at Gonzales was an outbreak of war

On to San Antonio After the Battle of Gonzales, Texans marched to San Antonio Texans took the presidio at Goliad by surprise The only large Mexican army left in Texas was in San Antonio On the march to San Antonio, more than 500 Texans volunteered to fight

The Capture of San Antonio
Half of the volunteers left after a month of waiting for the attack On December 5 Texans attacked and the siege lasted four days Only two Texans were killed Mexican Army surrendered Texas now had Goliad and San Antonio Significant because Texas was cleared of Mexican troops
