2 Learning intentions At the end of this lesson: All pupils will be able to: list the differences and similarities in cell structure between animal and plant cells Most pupils will be able to: describe and compare what organelles animal and plant cells have that are similar and different Some pupils will be able to: explain why animal and plant cells have similar and different structures

3 Starter for 10! Draw a diagram to show the structure of a cell from the description given. Read this whole passage first before you start drawing. The cell is three times longer than it is broad. It has straight edges or sides which appear as narrow double lines. There is a fairly thin strip of material lining the inner edge of the outer structure. Embedded in this thin strip is a small, dark, oval structure. This structure is sited at the top, left corner within the thin strip. Also present within the thin strip are small, dark spots which give this area a dotted appearance. The centre of the cell appears to be empty of any structures and fills most of the cell. Identify the cell and label the structures that you know.
