Presentation on theme: "Cell Organelle Analogies."— Presentation transcript:

1 Cell Organelle Analogies

2 Organelle Analogies A nucleus is like a principal.
A nucleus directs the activities in a cell. A principal directs activities in a school. Work with a partner to come up with another analogy for NUCLEUS

3 Cytoplasm Cytoplasm is like a floor in the classroom
Cytoplasm holds all the organelles inside a cell. A floor holds all the desks, chairs, and people in a classroom. Work with a partner to come up with another analogy for cytoplasm

4 Mitochondria Work with your partner to come up with an analogy for Mitochondria Pass out project sheet

5 Cell analogies Collage
You will need a POSTER for this project. Choose whether your collage will be about an animal or plant cell. Draw your cell in the middle of your poster. ***You may want to draw the cell on a piece of copy paper and then place it in the middle of your poster.

6 Cell Analogies Collage
4. You must include the following organelles in your cell: (these organelles do not need to be labeled in the cell, that comes later on in the directions!!) cell membrane cytoplasm nucleus vacuole mitochondria cell wall (if plant cell) chloroplast (if plant cell)

7 Cell Analogies Collage
You can add other organelles in your cell drawing for 2 bonus points each. Title your collage “Animal Cell Collage” or “Plant Cell Collage”

8 Cell Analogies Collage
Choose 5 organelles that you have drawn in your cell. Write an analogy for each organelle. EXAMPLE: A nucleus is like a principal. A nucleus directs the activities of all the other organelles. A principal directs the activities of all the teachers and students.

9 Cell Analogies Collage
Around your cell, write your 5 analogies and draw the object you mention in each analogy. Example: I would draw a picture of a principal underneath my nucleus analogy. ***It is okay to use clip art, or pictures cut from magazines for the analogy pictures ONLY. DO NOT PRINT OUT A PICTURE OF A CELL FROM THE INTERNET FOR THE CELL DRAWING!

10 Cell Analogies Collage
Draw an arrow from the correct organelle to your analogy You can create extra organelle analogies for 2 bonus points each.

11 Example: Animal Cell Collage Nucleus The nucleus is like a
brain because it has all the information and gives all the instructions

12 Cell Analogies Collage
Grading rubric is on the back of your project page (go over) DUE DATE IS SEPTEMBER 28!!! Homework tonight: Get parents to sign your project sheet. After you show it to me tomorrow the sheet is yours to keep. IT MUST BE TURNED BACK IN WITH YOUR POSTER ON SEPTEMBER 28!!!!!
