Plant and Animal Cells
2
Animal cell
3
Epithelial Tissue Animal cells. The Simple Epithelial Tissue Types
4
PLANT CELL Plant cells are different from animal cells because they: have cell walls (makes them angular-shaped) have chlorophyll (pigment found in the chloroplasts) Have a large central vacuole (stores water, ions, and can be used to store toxins) which helps give shape to the cell and so the plant.
5
Plant cell
6
Cytoplasm in all cells: Material that lies outside the nucleus and surrounds the organelles A clear fluid Most important chemical reactions take place here
7
Organelles Found in animal and plant cells. Carry out the cells life functions. Some organelles: Mitochondria vacuoles
8
Cell membrane boundary between cell and external environment controls movement of material entering and exiting the cell ( oxygen, nutrients, etc. enter ~ waste products and excess water leave) flexible and allows cell to vary its shape if needed (more in animal cells).
9
Cell wall an additional external boundary outside the plasma membrane in Plant cells relatively inflexible much thicker than the plasma membrane not found in animal cells
10
Cell wall made of different substances in different organisms Cellulose in plants (forms fibers... The fiber in our diet)
11
Vacuole space for temporary storage of materials sac of fluid surrounded by a membrane often store food, enzymes, and other materials needed by the cell Some store waste products A plant cell has a single large vacuole that stores water and other substances
13
Chloroplast found in plant cells food-producer of the cell
15
More plant cells
16
More plant cells, note the large vacuoles and the chloroplasts!!!
