Backstory Born September 26, 1902 in Tropea, Italy His original name was Umberto Anastasio, he changed it later while in the USA Dad died when he was a young boy Rough upbringing after passing of father With no parental guidance, he became a hit man at a very young age Immigrated from Italy to New York in 1919, by stowing away on a ship Had 11 siblings, and was the eldest of them all Tropea, Italy

Gang Beginnings Major American Gangster Started in Italy with the ILA Leader of the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) while still in his 20’s Youngest leader of the ILA in their history First mob in the US was with Giuseppe Masseria’s gang Giuseppe was a big time mob boss, so being in his gang benefited who ever was in it Rose through the ranks of Masseria’s gang, earning the trust of other members Befriended Lucky Luciano and Frank Costello, using them as role models for his future as a mob boss Joe “Giuseppe” Masseria Lucky LucianoFrank Costello

First Step to Becoming Mob Boss One of Giuseppe Masseria’s executioners Concocted a plan with Lucky Luciano, to get Lucky to the top of the gang families on the east coast Was appointed head of Murder, Inc. by Luciano himself Murder, Inc. committed upward toward 400-800 murders under Anastasias control

The Party Begins Enlisted in the US army in 1942 Used military ties to get the government off of Lucky Luciano’s back Was also apart of the Gambino Crime Family Didn’t get along really well with Vincenzo "Vincent" Mangano (leader of family at that time) In the year 1951, Anastasia had Vincent killed, and became the new Gambino Crime Family Leader US government had worked hard to get Albert deported and his citizenship revoked They succeeded in 1954 and had him deported Anastasia’s reign didn’t last long, 1951-1954 Vincenzo “Vincent” Mangano

Followers The main people who followed Albert were mob members His mob members liked him very much since he worked very hard to get to where he was His rival and acquaintance (Vito Genovese) soon became his rival Became very close with Luciano and followed his lead in many ways But he didn’t try to take over all 5 of the major families in New York like Luciano Vito Genovese

The “Bad Hair Day” Murder October 25, 1957 Park Sheraton Hotel at 870 7th Avenue The barber chair is currently in the mob museum Manhattan, New York Went into barber shop at the Park Sheraton Hotel and sat down for a hair cut Multiple men walked in and gunned him down right then and there Men were believed to have been hired by none other than Vito Genovese The identity of these men are still unknown today…….. The barber chair in which the “executioner” was executed

R.I.P Mad Hatter 1902-1957 Very modest funeral Family and friends where the only attendees Buried at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn Currently in Green-Wood Cemetery Will remain there for all eternity………. From the movie tombstone
