Sources of Vital Statistics and Their Limitations Civil Registration System not well established: no clear structures Boarder porous No documentation on births and deaths occurred in the village

Sources and Limitations cont’ Censuses Done once in every ten years Reliable source but mainly collects information on demographic Indicators Gets input from Civil registration

Institutions Responsible for Vital Statistics in Malawi National Statistical Office Collects vital statistics mainly through Surveys and censuses Analysis mainly focuses on Fertility and mortality

Sources and Limitations cont’ Sample Surveys Can be easily done since they are quicker and cheaper Objectives oriented
