Letters of Recommendation Work early with those who will write your letters of recommendation –All letters are not equally valuable –Academic rank, national recognition of letter writers can be important –Most important: Someone who knows you well! You do not want a generic letter The most helpful letters contain specifics, not just superlative words

Research Research should demonstrates a student’s ability to think, work independently, follow through, organize, synthesize, complete –Not all projects are within the realm of research Finished/published research receives more consideration than a current project Not everyone needs to- or should- do research

General Timeline: March 16, 2015: turn in Biosketch and CV. March-May: meet with Deans regarding Dean’s letter. April 21 st, 8:30-12:30, & April 23 rd, 12 noon-4:00: mandatory Fourth Year Orientation. December (Military), January (SFMP, AUA) March (CaRMS, NRMP): various match days.

January-February 2016: review Rank List with your Dean. January 15, 2016-February 24, 2016: Rank List entry period Match Day: Anticipated for Friday, March 18, 2016

Apply through CAS for SFMP: – https://www.sfmatch.org/ https://www.sfmatch.org/ September 2, 2015: Target date to complete Ophthalmology application in CAS. September 15, 2015: transcripts uploaded to CAS. October 1, 2015: MSPEs released to programs by SFMP. October-December: Interview season. December, 2015: Review Rank Lists with your Dean, begin inputting into CAS. January 5, 2016, 12:00 noon P.S.T: Rank Lists due. January 12, 2016: results released to medical schools.
