Exercise #2 general instructions The “Red Green Show” Exercise Purpose: To demonstrate how sending mixed messages can cause confusion. Time: 10 minutes Materials: 1 room, either PowerPoint or flip chart set of words/figures/noises with mixed messages. PLAY THIS WITH THE SOUND ON! The participants are to read the words. Through this exercise, participants will show that mixed messages lead to confusion. Make more noise in the background. Try to disturb the students Note: You can expect the different members of the group to fail at different points in during the exercise. After you have run through the slides discuss why they failed - and how they were tricked into failing They should find that they are getting mixed signals - Noise/words in the background with boring repeated slides The word ‘green’ typed in red color The word ‘red’ typed in green color Different colored backgrounds Word that they can’t read Each of these ‘mixed signals’ interfers with picking up the desired message.
