2 nd HYDROASIA 2008 2008.08.18 ~ 2008.08.22 The Application of Hydroinformatics Systems in Urban flow Analysis by SOBEK Team Purple 2008.08.18

 To evaluate the existing sewer network system  To model Flood Analysis Study of the Incheongyo Watershed – SWMM and SOBEK – SWMM and SOBEK  To discuss methods to solve flood problems in Incheongyo Watershed Main Objectives

 We strive to promote the application of Hydroinformatics Systems in solving problems related to Hydroengineering  Continuously learn and innovate with high dedication among friends from partner institutions  To provide constructive recommendations and alternative solutions for the management of Incheongyo Watershed Our Team Mission

Team Member Introduction Name : Liew San Chuin University : National University of Singapore (Tropical Marine Science Institute) Research Area: - Integrated Resources Management System Name : Xing Li Yun University : Beijing University of Technology Research Area: - Water Supply and Drainage Systems

Team Member Introduction Name : Kim Hyoung Jun University : Seoul University Research Area: - Rainwater Utilization Name : Mori Eisuke University : Kyoto University (Disaster Prevention Research Institute) Research Area - Integrated Resources Management System

Team Member Introduction Name : Lee Joo Kyung University : Incheon University (Environmental & Hydraulic Lab) Research Area - Environment & Hydraulic Name : Zhang Nan University : Incheon University & (Environmental & Hydraulic Lab) Research Area - Environment & Hydraulic

Our Supervisors Name : Prof. Namsik Park University :Dong-A University Main Research Areas: - Ground Water Management in Coastal Area Name : Prof. Zhou Yu Wen University : Beijing University of Technology Main Research Areas: - Optimization theory of water supply and drainage systems

Online Discussion  Meeting Platform : MSN  Meeting Time: Every Tuesday and Saturday (Optional) from 15 th June 2008 until 12 th August 2008 15 th June 2008 until 12 th August 2008  Models Application: SWMM and SOBEK (Optional)  GIS Application: ArcGIS ** Remarks: Our final decision is to use SOBEK in our analysis because we faced problems while trying to use SWMM Our final decision is to use SOBEK in our analysis because we faced problems while trying to use SWMM

1.Design of Introduction Page, Team Rules and Work Plan, Weekly reports, sent to group members, upload to WorkSpace 2008 2.Learn new model – SOBEK 3.Data from HydroAsia website (Data Section) - imported data into MOUSE.xls - Real precipitation from Incheon Rainfall Station.xls - Tidal data.xls - Catchment.shp Work / Analysis Done at Initial Stage (Online Period)

4.Import data from “imported data into MOUSE.xls” to MOUSE 5.Export data from MOUSE to SVK 19 file 6.SOBEK import SVK 19 file (SVK19 is the standard Scandinavian exchange format for sewer systems, comparable with the SufHyd exchange format in the Netherlands. This functionality enables SOBEK to import Mouse schematisations. Importing Mouse files is available under the Import menu, Import sewerage networks (SufHyd), and selecting the file type *.txt. 7.SOBEK Flood Analysis using data from “Real precipitation from Incheon Rainfall Station.xls” and “Tidal data.xls”

Importing manhole and all necessary information to SOBEK

Rainfall data file was created to run the flood analysis

Tidal data file was created for boundary condition

Complexity…   Nodes with same IDs – Svk19 format, the Node IDs are limited to 7 characters only, thus, node ID’s name which exceeds 7 characters will be then taken out from the first 7 characters from that long name   Storage area in Manhole by default 100 m 2. > 2600 nodes/manholes that need to be corrected to the actual manhole storage area.

Our Experiences During the 2 Months Online Period  Knowledge We have gained knowledge on hydroinformatics systems. Ex. Mouse, SWMM, SOBEK and etc.  Toleration Members form different countries with different time zone. Fixed the most convenient time to meet online for disccusion  Spirit of Teamwork / HydroAsia Members with different research background. Have little knowledge on Modeling. Guiding each other and work things out. Members from different team worked together to discuss problems encountered and try our best to help one another to solve the problems.

Further Discussion  Initial analysis was done on the whole Incheongyo catchment. We plan to divide the catchment into a few sub catchments, and separate analysis will be done individually.  Discussion on methods to solve flood problems in Incheongyo Watershed  Worst Case Scenario will be applied in our model to foresee future flood problems

THANK YOU
