2 What is “faithfulness”? Based upon one’s attendance? Based upon one’s stance toward institutionalism? What does “faithfulness” mean in the NT?

3 Three “Faith” Words “Faith” (Gr. pistis), a noun, to have faith “Believe” (Gr. pistueo), a verb, to believe “Faithful” (Gr. pistos), an adjective, to be trustworthy, dependable, reliable

4 Faithful = Reliable God is faithful, reliable (1 Cor. 1:9; 10:13; 2 Thess. 3:3; 1 Pet. 4:19) Abraham was faithful, reliable (Gal. 3:9) Timothy, Paul, and Tychicus were faithful, reliable (1 Cor. 4:17; 7:25; Eph. 6:21)

5 Faithful = Reliable Silvanus was faithful, reliable (1 Pet. 5:12) Gaius was faithful, reliable (3 Jn. 5)

6 To Be Faithful… One must be dependable (Mt. 24:45; 25:21,23; Lk. 12:42; 16:10; 19:17) A slave or steward was to be faithful (1 Cor. 4:2) God depends on us to be at worship services (Heb. 10:25)

7 To Be Faithful… God depends on us to be at our post (Eph. 6:10ff) God depends on us to get his message out (Acts 8:2; 2 Tim. 2:2) God depends on us to do his work (1 Cor. 15:58)

8 To Be Faithful… One must be truthful, true to his word (2 Cor. 1:18; 1 Tim. 3:1; Tit. 1:9; Heb. 10:23; 11:11; Rev. 3:14; 19:11; 21:5; 22:26) and just (1 Jn. 1:9) God wants us to be true to our word in every situation

9 To Be Faithful… “I am a Christian” – Really? A Christ follower all the time? “I promise to…” – Really? You keep your word all the time?

10 To Be Faithful… One must be steadfastly committed (Rev. 1:5; 2:10,13) You made a good deal, don’t sell it now (Prov. 23:23) You planted an important crop, don’t neglect it now (Lk. 8:15)

11 To Be Faithful… You experienced a new birth, don’t die now (Jn. 15:1ff; 2 Pet. 1:5ff; 3:18) You were added to the church, don’t sit around doing nothing (Acts 2:38, 42, 47) You started a wonderful race, don’t quit now (Acts 20:24; Gal. 5:7; 2 Tim. 4:8)

12 Called, Chosen, and Faithful The world measures people by success (education, fame, salary, things, etc.) God measures people by faithfulness (trustworthiness, dependability, reliability) Can he depend on you?
