2  Born in Toronto April 30 th /1959  attended Northlea Public School, John G Althouse Middle School, Richview Collegiate Institute  Worked at imperial oil  Completed a bachelors degree in economics at university of Calgary then returned for a masters  first PM since Pearson to not have attended law school

3  Member of his high school’s young Liberals club  Changed alliance because he disagreed with Trudeau’s National Energy Program  Executive assistant to MP Jim Hawkes 1981  Became the Reform Party‘s Chief Policy Officer 1988-1992

4  He became Legislative Assistant to Deborah Gray, the Reform Party's first MP in 1988.  Stephen Harper was first elected to the House of Commons as the Reform MP for Calgary West in 1993. Didn’t seek re-election in 97  He served as the Reform Party critic for finance and national unity.

5  In March 2002, was elected Leader of the Canadian Alliance Party.  He was elected to the House of Commons in Calgary Southwest in May 2002.  Signed an agreement with Peter Mackay of the PC Party to merge the Canadian Alliance Party and the PC Party into the Conservative Party of Canada in December 2003.  Stepped down as the Leader of the Canadian Alliance to run for the leadership of the new Conservative Party of Canada in January 2004.

6  Stephen Harper was elected Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada in March 2004.  In the 2006 general election Stephen Harper led the Conservative Party to victory with a minority government.  Stephen Harper was sworn in as the 22nd Prime Minister of Canada on February 6, 2006.

7  As Prime Minister, Stephen Harper has delivered real action on the priorities of all Canadian families including:  Giving Canadians tax credits for money spent on transit passes, textbooks and kids’ sports.  Strengthening Canada’s product safety laws, including the first ever federal mandatory recall law, and new rules for what can be called a “product of Canada”.

8  Passing tough new laws that will keep gun criminals and sexual predators behind bars.  Taking real action on the environment with Canada’s first ever mandatory greenhouse gas emission regulations.  Investing in new patrol ships, satellite surveillance, and arctic rangers to protect our sovereignty over Canada’s North.
