L1 Support Structure Holding Fixture J. Fast 4/30/03 Revised 8/27/03

Scope of Use Survey of structure Installation of modules Testing of installed modules Installation of outer cylinder (to mate L0) Intended for use on Zeiss 850 w/ RT05 Not intended for use in mating L0 to L1 –Hold L1 from outer cylinder for this operation

RT05 L1 Structure Z=600 Support Cable Spider Live Center Support Rod CMM Table L1 Holding and Module Installation Fixture Newport 462- XYZ Stages Thorlabs Magnetic Bases

Z0 and Z600 Supports L1 Structure sits on steel pins that engage the sapphire bearings which will later support L0. Structure is constrained in Z at the Z=600 end using same point(s) for locking L0 to L1.

Options for Support Rod 2” OD, ¼” wall aluminum pipe, machined to 50mm at ends for reference surfaces ($67 plus machining). 50mm OD, 10.5mm wall, hardened ground tubular steel shaft 1200mm length ($462). 50mm fully keyed steel shaft, 1200mm length ($165) We will want a tailstock to remove bulk of this deflection –  1/23 self-deflection,  1/6 point-load deflection Aluminum is favored for lower weight Hollow rod is favored for smaller self-deflection
