4 4 Study Objectives Provide national measures of public satisfaction with: –The nation’s highways –Community transportation systems and options –Access to and travel on Federal lands Describe travel patterns Understand how community transportation systems affect where people live and work and, thus, indirectly affect community development Identify the public’s priorities and preferred approaches to solving transportation problems

5 5 Survey Design Operations and Planning/ Environment Survey 2,057 people participated in Random Digit Dial (RDD) telephone survey ±2 percentage point margin of sampling error Baseline for traditional and emerging issues Infrastructure Survey 2,030 people participated in RDD telephone survey ±2 percentage point margin of sampling error Follow-up to the 1995 National Highway User Survey Also assessed satisfaction from a community perspective Federal Lands Highway Survey 1,236 people interviewed at six National Parks and six National Forests ±3 percentage point margin of sampling error Determined gap between satisfaction with and importance of roadway and operational characteristics
