UNPACKING the question By referring to the diction (1) that has been used, compare (2) and contrast (3) the tone (4) and attitude (5) of both writers (6) to “Life of Pi”. Quote (7) from the Texts 1 and 2 (8) in support of your answer.

The writer of Text 1 has a positive attitude to the film; the tone is admiring/approving.This is enhanced through words/phrases such as “stunning visuals”; exquisite”; “shimmering”. These descriptive phrases all have connotations of great beauty which enhance the complimentary tone. (P.E.E.) (2/4)

In Text 2 the writer has a less admiring attitude and at times has a critical tone as can be seen in words such as “ exasperating” and the phrase “a shallow and self-important shaggy-dog of a story”. Both these ideas enhance dissatisfaction and self-aggrandizement.

However, when speaking about the digital work, the tone is admiring and therefore similar to the writer of Text 1. This is conveyed in the adjectives “brilliant” and “stunning” (2/4)
