2 Physical Geography The island of Ireland is located in the north-west of Europe, between latitudes 51° and 56° N, and longitudes 11° and 5° W.north-west of Europe 51°56° N11°5° W

3 Landforms 5 major landforms Coastline - Ireland’s coastline includes one of its most famous natural features: the Giant’s Causeway. Mountains - Ireland’s mountains are concentrated in the northeast and southwest of the island. In County Down, the Mourne Mountains Rivers - Ireland’s longest river is the Shannon Plateaus - Ireland has two major plateau areas. The first, in County Antrim, Lakes - Lough Neagh is the largest freshwater lake in the British Isles.

12 Economy ●Type - The economy of Ireland is a modern knowledge economy, that focuses on services and high-tech industries and dependent on trade, investment and industry. ●Main Industries include pharmaceuticals, medical devices, chemicals, computer software and hardware, food products, beverages and brewing. ●Imports - Data processing equipment, other machinery and equipment, chemicals, petroleum and petroleum products, textiles and clothing. ●Exports - Computers, machinery and equipment, chemicals, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, food products and animal products. ●Agriculture - The Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine currently the agri-food sector in Ireland contributes a value of 24 billion euro to the national economy. Ireland is a net importer of cereal grains. Spring Barley is the most popular cereal crop grown by farmers and is used for the malting, seed and feed industries in the country. Winter wheat, winter barley and winter and spring oats are the other important grain crops produced for the agri-food industry. ●Trade - Main export partners : U.S., U.K., Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, France, Netherlands and Spain. Main import partners : U.K., U.S., Germany, China, Netherlands, France, Norway, Japan.

13 Natural Resources Natural resources include natural gas, petroleum, peat, copper, lead, blueberries, dolomite, barite, limestone, gypsum, silver and zinc.

14 Human Resources A big human resource in Ireland would be taxing, claims of a tax yield of some 1.7 billion euro.
