Learning Targets: 1.To be able to identify segments and rays 2.To recognize when lines and planes are parallel
2
Vocabulary Segment – The part of a line consisting of two endpoints and ALL the points between them. ABorsegment AB
3
Vocabulary Ray – The part of a line consisting of one endpoint and all the points of the line on the other side of the endpoint. Is AB different than BA? Yes, the rays have different endpoints.
4
Vocabulary Opposite Rays – Two COLLINEAR rays with the SAME endpoint. PA, PB are opposite rays
5
1.) Name EF another way. 2.) Name all segments. 3.) Name all rays. 4.) Name a pair of opposite rays. 5.) Are EG, GE the same segment? Why? D E F G EG DE, DF, DG, EF, EG, FG DE, EF, FG, GF, FE, ED Yes, the segments contain the same set of points.
6
Vocabulary Parallel Lines – COPLANAR lines that do not intersect Skew Lines – NONCOPLANAR lines They ARE NOT parallel They DO NOT intersect A B D C E FG AB ||CD AD, BE
