Some EBSCOhost eBooks can be downloaded to mobile devices. This presentation will guide you through the basic steps to download an eBook.

To download an EBSCOhost eBook you will need the following: An EBSCOhost Account An Adobe Account Adobe Digital Editions software installed on computer (Note: This is not required for Android devices.)

Not all eBooks can be downloaded. An eBook must have the Download This eBook (Offline) icon to be downloaded.

You will be required to sign in at the top right of the screen to your EBSCOhost account. If you do not have an account, select Create a new Account on the log-in page.

You may view a downloaded eBook on a computer without creating an Adobe Account; however, you must have an Adobe Account to transfer the eBook to a mobile device. Adobe Digital Editions is a free software that downloads the eBook from EBSCOhost. The eBook can then be read on a computer or transferred to a mobile device. Adobe Digital Editions can be downloaded at: http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/#fp All STC computers should have Adobe Digital Editions installed.

Android devices do not require Adobe Digital Editions. iPhones, iPods, and iPads require that iTunes be installed on the computer. EBSCOhost eBooks can not be downloaded to a Kindle at this time. Viewing: The eBook is read online, but not checked out. When the session is closed, the eBook becomes available to other readers within 30 minutes. To view an eBook, select this icon: Downloading: The eBook is checked out for up to 14 days and can be transferred to a mobile device. The eBook is not available to other readers during the checkout period. To download an eBook, select this icon:

You will be asked to select a checkout period A small file is then downloaded to your computer. Remember the location where you save this file.

Open the EBSCOhost file with Adobe Digital Editions. It will ask you to sign in with your Adobe account ID and password. If you select “Don’t Authorize Computer”, you will be able to read the eBook on the computer, but not transfer it to another device.

To read a downloaded eBook on a computer, you must use Adobe Digital Editions. eBooks are delivered as PDFs; however, the ePUB format will be available in 2012.

Non-Android devices: Requires Adobe Digital Editions. Open the small file from EBSCOhost with Adobe Digital Editions to download the eBook (as shown on Slide 11). Connect your mobile device and drag and drop the eBook icon to the mobile device.

Android devices: Does not require Adobe Digital Editions. Drag and drop the small file from EBSCOhost to the Android device. Enter your Adobe ID and password at the prompt.

At the end of your checkout period, the eBook will expire and no longer be available on your computer or mobile device. The eBook automatically becomes available in EBSCOhost to other readers.

If someone already has the eBook checked out, you may place a hold on it. You will be notified by email when the eBook becomes available. If you do not check out the eBook within 2 days, it becomes available to anyone.
