GUILT AND BLAME Guilt is an emotion that occurs when a person believes that they have violated a moral standard that they themselves believe in. Blame is the act of holding responsible, making negative statements about an individual or group that their action or actions are socially or morally irresponsible, the opposite of praise.

TYPES OF SELF BLAME Behavioural self-blame Characterological self-blame

Behavioural self-blame control related involves attributions to a modifiable source (one's behaviour). associated with a belief in the future avoidability of a negative outcome.

Characterological self-blame esteem related involves attributions to a relatively non-modifiable source (one's character) associated with a belief in personal deservingness for past negative outcomes
