3. Roosevelt Island This island was first owned by the Canarsie Indians, then it was sold to the Dutch in 1637, and then The English seized the Island. Blackwell became the owner after his father in law’s death. Then, NYC bought the Island, and the Island erects as a penitentiary. Now Roosevelt is more like residential area, full of rental buildings.penitentiary
