Calorimetry Review : Specific Heat, Latent Heat, & Temperature vs. Heat Input plot Chapter 14
2
Define the terms found in §14.0- 14.5 §14.1: §14.2: §14.3: §14.4: §14.5:
3
Define the terms found in §14.0- 14.5 Calorie, calorie, heat thermal energy specific heat system, surroundings, closed, open, isolated, calorimeter phase, heat of fusion, heat of vaporization, latent heat, evaporation

Figure 14-5 Temperature as a function of the heat added to bring 1.0 kg of ice at -40°C to steam above 100°C.
5
Using the diagram below (no textbook), do the following: - Copy the graph into your notes. - On the same graph, sketch the plot for half the amount of water. - Rank, from smallest to largest, the specific heat values for solid, liquid, and gaseous water. - Rank, from smaller to larger, the latent heats (fusion & vaporization). - Write the basic equation that utilizes specific heat. - Write the basic equation that utilizes latent heat.

Figure 14-17 for Problem 18: The 1.20-kg head of a hammer has a speed of 6.5 m/s just before it strikes a nail (Fig. 14–17) and is brought to rest. Estimate the temperature rise of a 14-g iron nail generated by 10 such hammer blows done in quick succession. Assume the nail absorbs all the energy.
