The Church is His Sanctuary Ephesians 2.4-6: But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus… Ephesians 2.20-21: …Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together is growing into a holy temple in the Lord…

The Church is His Sanctuary (cont.) 1 Corinthians 3.16: Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 2 Corinthians 6.16: (Ex. 29.45) For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
16
Hebrews 10.19-23: Since therefore, brethren, we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful… With Confidence the Faithful Enter His Sanctuary

Sanctuary (hagion) 10 times in the NT Hebrews 9.1-3 Hebrews 9.8 Hebrews 13.11 5 times referring to the earthly sanctuary: 5 times referring to the heavenly sanctuary: Hebrews 8.2 Hebrews 9.12 Hebrews 9.24-25 Hebrews 10.19
18
What is the sanctuary in the mind of the modern Church? A ROOM Only under the Mosaic Law was the Sanctuary a room.
19
What TRULY is the sanctuary? Though culturally normative, is it correct to refer to a building as the church? Though culturally normative, is it correct to refer to a room as the Sanctuary? A sanctuary is that which is sanctified by His presence. Buildings are not sanctified, believers are!
20
What TRULY is the sanctuary? Is one room more holy than another? Can we worship in the fellowship hall? In the woods? Under a house?
23
LORD, prepare me to be a sanctuary. It means that I am willing to submit to the fashioning hand of God whereby He makes my heart a place sanctified by His presence. What does this prayer mean? This means that everywhere I go, everything I do, every attitude I project, everything I say, every choice I make, I am presenting myself as the dwelling place of God. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 1 Corinthians 6.19
24
The Final Sanctuary Revelation 21.2-4: And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He shall dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be among them, and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” 22-23: And I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God, the Almighty, and the Lamb, are its temple. And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
