2
A Study of The Holy Spirit
Professed Divine revelation Professed miracles – Professed spiritual contacts and direct faith Professed direct leading The rise of mysticism and emotionalism has played a large role in attributing to the Holy Spirit things that we can be certain should not be. True spirituality is – Fearing God, and keeping His commandments as defined by His word.

The Work of The Holy Spirit
In The Life of The Christian God Dwells in us – 2 Cor. 6:16; 1 John 4:12 God Dwells In Us 2 Cor. 6:16 (NKJV) And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people." 1 John 4:12 (NKJV) No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. Jesus Dwells in us John 14:20 (NKJV) At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. Galatians 2:20 (NKJV) I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Ephes. 3:17 (NKJV) that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, How?? John 14:23-24 (NKJV) Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. [24] He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me. John 15:1-10 (NKJV) "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. [2] Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. [3] You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. [4] Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. [5] I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. [6] If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. [7] If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. [8] By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. [9] "As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. [10] If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. The question is NOT – “DOES the Holy Spirit Dwell In The Christian?” BUT HOW? ? Indwells

The Work of The Holy Spirit
What Does The Holy Spirit Do Today That He Does Not Accomplish Through The Word? In The Life of The Christian Hebrews 4:12 Living Powerful Sharper than two edged sword Piercing into soul & spirit Discerner between thoughts & intents of the heart What Does The Holy Spirit Do Today That He Does Not Accomplish Through The Word? 1. Provides everything we need - 2 Timothy 3:16,17 a. Doctrine? – 1 Tim. 4:12-16 (NKJV) Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. [13] Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine [15] Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. [16] Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you. b. Reproof? – 2 Tim. 4:2 (NKJV) Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. c. Correction? – Acts 2:36,37; 2 Tim. 2:25 (NKJV) in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, d. Instruction in righteousness? - Psalm 119:9 (NKJV) How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word [11] Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You! e. Perfection? – 2 Pet 1:3; Ephes. 4:13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; [15] but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head--Christ-- 2. Powerful enough to convert, fight with, and build up! - Hebrews 4:12 a. Living – John 6:63; 1 Peter 1:23 b. Powerful - Jeremiah 23:29 "Is not My word like a fire?" says the Lord, "And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? c. Sharper than two edged sword – Ep. 6:17 d. Piercing into soul & spirit – Acts 2:37 e. Discerner between thoughts & intents of the heart - Ephes. 5:13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 2 Timothy 3:16,17 Doctrine? The Work of The Holy Spirit
In The Life of The Christian Romans 8:16-17 (NKJV) The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, [17] and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Enters – through the mind – (8:1-8) Dwells – You in Him, He in you – (9-11) Kills – The deeds of the flesh - (12,13) Leads – Unto son-ship, (14) [cf. The Work of The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit “Bears Witness” – With our Human Spirit In The Life of The Christian our Human Spirit The Holy Spirit “Bears Witness” With Believe – Acts 8:37 (NKJV) Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." Confess – Romans 10:9 (NKJV) that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Repent – Acts 17:30 (NKJV) Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, Be baptized – 1 Peter 3:21-22 (NKJV) There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, [22] who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him. Be faithful – Col. 1:21-23 (NKJV) And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled [22] in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight-- [23] if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. Confess, Repent & Pray – Acts 8:22 (NKJV) Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. 1 John 1:9 (NKJV) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Believe – Acts 8:37 Confess – Romans 10:9 Repent – Acts 17:30 Be baptized – 1 Peter 3:21 Be faithful – Col. 1:23 Confess, Repent & Pray – Acts 8:22; 1 John 1:9 I have done those things!

The Work of The Holy Spirit
In The Life of The Christian Enters – through the mind – (8:1-8) Dwells – You in Him, He in you – (9-11) Kills – The deeds of the flesh - (12,13) Leads – Unto son-ship, (14) [cf. Gal. 3:26,27] Assures – Bears witness/ Hope – (15-25) Helps - by interceding for us – (26,27) Entrance – through the mind – (8:1-8) . . . Those who are in Christ walk according to the Law of the Spirit (1,2) Christ made forgiveness possible (3,4) The Law of the Spirit is followed by those who set their mind on it – (5-8) Dwells – You must be in the Spirit in order for the Spirit to be in you – (9-11) Since they are walking in accordance with the Law of the Spirit – it can rightly be said that the Holy Spirit has a great influence upon how they live their lives! The Holy Spirit controlled their thinking and actions through the law that He delivered, Christians are instructed to let the “Word of Christ dwell in them richly” – Col. 3:16 Although the physical consequences of sin are not avoided by submitting to the Law of the Spirit, the righteousness that is acquired through obedience to the gospel, (Rom. 1:16,17) will bring about victory over death because we will be raised from the dead. (10) Kills – The Deeds of the flesh – (12,13) Serving Christ is our reasonable service – (Romans 12:1, By the transforming of our mind) Those who will not submit to the Law of the Spirit – they will die spiritually, eternally, But Those who PUT TO DEATH through the Spirit the deeds of the flesh, (evil or disgraceful deeds) will live eternally with God! Leads – Unto son-ship, (14) [cf. Gal. 3:26,27] (NOT DRUG) For as many as No more and no less (1 Cor. 12:13) Assures – Bears witness/ Hope – (15-25) When we have complied with the “Law of The Spirit” we have confidence. Indwells

The Work of The Holy Spirit
Helps - by interceding for us – (26,27) Context Creation groans & labors until now (22) Christians groaning – awaiting the redemption of the body (23) Hope helps us to wait for this redemption (24,25) In The Life of The Christian Romans 8:26-27 (NKJV) Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. [27] Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Enters – through the mind – (8:1-8) Dwells – You in Him, He in you – (9-11) Kills – The deeds of the flesh - (12,13) Leads – Unto son-ship, (14) [cf. Gal. 3:26,27] Assures – Bears witness/ Hope – (15-25) Helps - by interceding for us – (26,27) Now for verse 26 Likewise: Creation groans Christians groan The Holy Spirit groans! The Holy Spirit grieves over the sufferings and persecutions faced by Christians. the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, = A lack of understanding regarding the overall plan and purpose of our sufferings We may ask that the sufferings be removed, but God, through the Spirit knows that “our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,” 2 Corinthians 4:17 1 Peter 1:6-9 (NKJV) In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, [7] that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, [8] whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, [9] receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls. but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
