To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. Exodus 24:17 For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.Deuteronomy 4:24 The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: “Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?” Isaiah 33:14 …For our “God is a consuming fire.”Hebrews 12:29

You are holy and we don’t deserve you, but… You have chosen us You want us to reflect you to the rest of the world We need your full presence to do that “Show me your glory”

We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.
